A Bird Doesn’t Sing Because-Daily Meditation November 3 2022
Today’s quotation:
A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song.-Maya Angelou
Today’s Meditation:
I think it would be nice if more people sang. Even if someone doesn’t have a great voice, the simple act of singing is an act that can bring a lot of life to the world, a lot of spirits, and a lot of hope. I love to sing, and my voice isn’t all that great–but that’s fine with me. I’m not trying to make a living from my voice, just trying to enjoy myself and let music add its touch to my life.
We don’t need reasons to sing. We don’t have to wait for parties or karaoke nights or special situations. We just have to want to let out the songs that are in us. They may be songs that we’ve made up ourselves or songs that someone else wrote–it truly doesn’t matter. We sing because we have songs in our hearts, and we sing to lighten our spirits and we sing to lighten the spirits of those people with whom we share our lives. Just as a bird doesn’t need to have a reason to sing, neither do we.
We don’t have to have answers to problems in our lives to sing our songs, either. Sometimes the songs may not even be all that musical in nature–they can be the results of us using our greatest talents in the ways that make the best use of them. We don’t need to have reasons to use our talents, either–we can use them just because we have them, and each use of them is a great celebration of the gifts we have.
You have your songs, just as I have mine. What are your songs, and what does it take to make you sing them? The more you share those songs with the world, the brighter you make this world of ours, and the lighter you make the loads for the people whose paths cross yours. Isn’t that reason enough to share your personal songs much more often than you do already?
Questions to consider:
What kinds of reasons do you need to sing?
Why do we start to believe that there has to be a good reason to break into a song?
Are you willing to share your gifts without having answers?
For further thought:
Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last your whole life long
Don’t worry that it’s not good enough
