A College Classmate Jim Lion- My Rhymes and Reasons 11.20.24
College Classmate Jim Lion on Today’s My Rhymes and Reasons 11.20.24
It’s Greg Asimakoupoulos with today’s edition of My Rhymes and Reasons, with a college classmate Jim Lion at my favorite hangout, St. Arbu, here on Mercer Island. Today, we are at Seattle Pacific University. Half a century ago, we graduated 50 years ago this past June.
How did you stay so young, Greg? I don’t get it, and Jim, you’ve had a storied career in state government, as a lawyer and as a pastor, the last dozen years or so. What has been your assignment for the previous 12 years? I’ve been the general director of the Church of Ab Ministries. This kind of Church of God home office is based in Anderson, Indiana. We have about 2100 churches in the United States and Canada and 10 times as many worldwide, and here we are.
I’ve been delighted to be able to follow you through the years and all early on in our friendship when we had a chance some years ago to partner with David and Karen Mains and the Chapel of the Air Ministry Great Souls. That was an excellent chapter in my life and mine as well. They are true mentors to me, sir, and you shared in one of our pastor’s Gatherings the 50-day adventure of your adoption story.
I wondered if maybe I could impose upon you over today and then tomorrow’s edition of this little Daily Devotional feature if you’d share with us kind of your story and, in the process, God’s story in your life. Thanks so much for asking Greg if you want to hear the story. I’m glad to tell you. Everybody has a story, and most people don’t think their story is so exciting, but the story is, well, no, but I’m just saying everybody has one.
Still, hey, for me, my story goes like this: I grew up knowing that I was adopted, and my parents, who gave me a name and a home and a future, were always very sage in the way in which they explained to me my history. (You can listen to more in the video above.)
