Americans Go To the Polls to Elect a New President-My Rhymes and Reasons 11.5.2024

It’s a Tuesday, a crucial Tuesday. This is the day Americans go to the polls to elect a new president. A Tuesday of Tuesdays, and here I am on the Pacific Ocean watching the tide come in, watching those little sand birds racing to get whatever they’re eating before the waves disrupt them.

It’s fun to watch such little guys on a mission. There’s nothing quite like the beauty of the ocean colors of the waves, as you can tell by my excitement. I love being at the beach by the ocean, and don’t get me wrong, I love Lake Chalan, where our family has had a Lake cottage for the last 40 years or so. We love going to Lake Chalan, but there’s nothing quite like the power and awesome beauty of the ocean.

Why is that? Well, I think it’s partly because the ocean is not controlled. It is the force of nature that no one can tame. On this election day, I draw courage from the power of the tide, the surging tide that crashes against the sandy beaches, because we will elect a new president today. Who knows if all the votes will be tabulated and if we will know the results by the end of today?

Given our history, it’s possible we won’t, but what I’d like to focus on today as I allow you to enjoy the beauty of this scene here at Newport Beach is the reality that God is the God who moves the hearts of kings and presidents. God is in control.  You can listen to the rest in the video above.
