An Alaska Adventure on the Eurodam with Mike Bussey and the YMCA

Join Greg and Mike on their travels while traveling with their wives on an Alaska Adventure on the Eurodam.

Hey, it’s Greg Asimakoupoulos on a Tuesday with today’s edition of my Rhymes and Reasons. I’m here with a gentleman you met last week, Mike Bussey. We’ve been traveling with our wives on an Alaska Adventure on the Eurodam, one of Holland America’s pristine cruise ships. We’re here on the Leo Deck with the swimming pool in the background because I want to discuss the YMCA.

When I think of the YMCA, I think of the Everett Washington YMCA, where I learned to swim when I was a pup. I know Mike, for you, the Y has been a huge part of your life both as a kid and as an adult. Right, absolutely, Greg. I connected because of my mother when I was 15 years old. She encouraged me. She told me I had to get a summer job. I connected to a YMCA Camp.

I helped a young person learn how to float. He was paranoid about the water, and I thought it was amazing to help some kid do something significant like floating. It connected me to my mission and purpose in life. I’ve worked with the Y for the next 50 years, starting at the YMCA Camp.

I had my little gym bag that I got as a kid. I think it got lost in some of our moves, but I kept that for years. It still had my name, Greg Smith, way back before we took on our Greek name, which shows you how long ago it was. You can listen to the rest of the video message above.
