Cascade Covenant Church in North Bend, Washington, on Today’s My Rhymes and Reasons

Welcome to today’s edition of my Rhymes and Reasons from Cascade Covenant Church. I’m your host, Greg Asimakoupoulos, from this most beautiful setting in North Bend, Washington. I’m on the campus of Cascade Covenant Church, and as you can tell, it’s situated at the base of Mount Sai. Look at that amazingly beautiful setting for a beautiful facility.

For 30 years, this church has impacted this community with the Gospel’s good news. I know the history of this church, and I wanted to share it with you today by way of illustration. You know, back in about 1910, Seattle had a Covenant Church it was called First Covenant Church. It was called First Covenant Church because it was the First Covenant Church in the Pacific Northwest. It was, well, it was back then. It was called the Swedish Tabernacle.

This was when the services were in Swedish because our denomination, the Evangelical Covenant Church, came out of Swedish immigration from the old country. As immigrants came to North America, they found themselves huddling together, sharing the goodness of God as they settled into their new Homeland. They began to meet together in homes having Bible studies.

It was a continuation of a Revival that started in Sweden in the middle of the 119th century. As that movement came to North America, these Christians gathered and began to organize. Churches were established in Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Seattle, where Scandinavians tended to land, and therefore, there was that one mother.
