The True Light Is a Gentle Love| Daily Meditation-January 30, 2022
Today’s Quotation:
The true Light is a gentle love which, rising in you, causes you to look on the world with understanding and compassion and respect. When you respect the souls of your brother and sister, you respect their lives in every way. This gentle spirit, this respect one for another, must come. For this is the generation of the one true Light, and this true light is that of love.

Today’s Meditation:
Gentle love for one another. Compassion and respect. Can I show that to others each day of my life? Am I able to be a loving person, compassionate and respectful, every day? And if I am able to be so, how will that affect the lives of the other people that my life touches? If I show them respect and compassion and love, will I enrich their days, even if they don’t notice it at the time, even if they never acknowledge the fact that I’ve given something to them, no matter how small my gift might be?
What would it be like to live a life of gentle love? What could it mean to be loving at every moment? I wouldn’t judge any longer, and I wouldn’t criticize unless I was trying to be constructive. I could look for the light and the love and the grace in others and do my best to nurture that part of others, to encourage others to be the best they can be–on their terms, not on mine. I wouldn’t try to control others, and I wouldn’t hold them up to my expectations. I would show them love, and love only, and let them be free to find their own ways in life–to make their own mistakes and learn their own lessons on their own terms.
When I respect the soul of another, I respect its uniqueness and its need to express that uniqueness. I respect its right to take life on its own terms and to be as it wishes to be, not how I expect it to be. While the word “permission” sounds almost control-oriented, when I do respect another, I give that person permission to be exactly who he or she is without any conditions attached. People appreciate that permission, for then they feel more comfortable around me; they know there’s another soul on this planet that will treat them as they deserve to be treated.
Questions to ponder:
1. Do you respect the spirits of others? How do you demonstrate that respect?
2. How might we learn to respect others more deeply? What kinds of things can we teach ourselves?
3. How are the terms “respect” and “love” related? Can both be unconditional?
For further thought:
God looks at the world through the eyes of love. If we, therefore, as human beings made in the image of God also want to see reality rationally, that is, as it truly is, then we, too, must learn to look at what we see with love.
