Doug Burley on Today’s My Rhymes and Reasons

Enjoy listening to Doug Burley on today’s video message. It’s Tuesday, with Greg with today’s My Rhymes and Reasons edition. As you can see, I’m not doing this solo today. Some of you recognize Doug Burley. Doug has been a friend for the last few decades, and we come at life and Ministry. Very similarly, Doug has been a product of the University Presbyterian Church here in Seattle for many years. He was president of Young Life. And for how many years have you been with the fellowship in Washington, DC?

Thirty years. Yes, you kind of married into it, though I didn’t know what I was getting into 50 years ago when I asked Doug for his daughter’s hand in marriage. I had marriage on my mind; I told you earlier today that my daughter Lauren is a recent bride. We married her off last weekend.

You’ve had the experience of being Father of the Bride now. I’ve had that experience twice. Speaking of Doug, you know, the person who took the Baton of ministry from Abram V, he was the pastor who performed the wedding of my grandparents unbelievably back in 1921. So all that marriage talk is not why I want to talk to you today. I want to talk to you about the Olympics of life.

Our eyes are glued to TV sets almost every evening, watching the highlights of what’s been happening in Paris and the Olympics every couple of years, winter and summer. Still, you know what? There are the daily Olympics, what I call the Olympics of life, that find us doing whatever is necessary to finish the race and cross the finish line; well, can we talk about that a little bit today?

We can. I’m nine years old, and I travel the world. I don’t have a job; I have a calling. I don’t go to work; I meet with friends all over the world. I love that it energizes me, and I believe it’s what the Lord called us to. He called us to himself. He didn’t call us to an organization or a denomination. He called us to himself. You can hear more about it in the video above.
