A 30-Year Friendship with Longtime Friend Tim Bots

It’s Greg Asimakoupoulos with my longtime friend Tim Bots. Today, I told someone we were celebrating an anniversary or friendship. Do you realize it’s been 30 years since we first personally met?

It’s hard to believe that in 1995, Wendy and I became acquainted with Tim’s calligraphy. About 5 years before that, when we were living in California and the chairman of our church and his wife were huge Tim Bots fans. They babysat for our girls while Wendy and I went out for an anniversary dinner, but they also gave us a wrapped gift, and in it was one of your coffee table books of hymn lyrics. It was a wonderful thing.

Well, here we are recording this little devotional after a hymn sing at Covenant Living at Windsor Park in Suburban Chicago, not far from where you and Nancy live, right where we live in Glenn Ellen. which is, oh my, less than 10 miles from here. I’m so glad to be with you tonight, Tim, and to maybe just talk for a little bit about the hymn lyrics.

I know that you grew up in a Christian home where hymns were a big part of your family life even before you started rendering the lyrics artistically. Right, that’s true, my time in the youth choir of our church was very significant. I can still remember a particular song that we sang. It was, I sang a song of the saints of God. With God’s help, I mean to be one too. I love that I never learned that until I became a chaplain and started participating in Memorial Services for alans, they love that hymn, and they often sing it at Memorial Services.
