Helen Jones Woods, was a pioneering figure in music history and the mother of founder and chairperson of the powerhouse media company Urban One, Dr. Cathy Hughes. As a founding member of The Sweethearts of Rhythm, the first integrated all-women jazz band, Mrs. Jones Woods helped break barriers in the 1940s.
