I Have Always Been Delighted-Daily Meditation 12.11.23
Today’s quotation:
I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.-
J.B. Priestley
Today’s Meditation:
Sometimes, I don’t see the day as a beautiful set of opportunities set before me in the morning when I wake up. I do regret this fact because the truth of the matter is that I know that each day is a blessing and that each day is full of blessings. I want to be delighted when I wake up–I want to look forward to the day, no matter what I may be doing or what I may have planned. I love J.B.’s attitude and know it would be in my best interests to emulate it. Somehow, though, I fall short.
That doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying, for I know that much of what the day brings to me depends upon what I get to the day. It isn’t a one-way street, after all. Much of the responsibility for how my life turns out is with me and how I approach my life–and each day is a microcosm of that life. Each day will turn out greatly in ways that are determined by how I approach the day.
I want to be delighted at the prospect of the new day so that I can give all that delight to the day- which will help me make the most of it and help make the day turn out in delightful ways. I want to look forward to the day unfolding and what the day will bring me as I go through it. I want to see the world anew and my life anew, and I want to make each day special for me and the other people in my life.
A new world today? Of course, it is. Everything from the past is right there where it should be–in the past–so the present is ours to make of it what we will. Our best chance to make our present-day into something special is to bring a special attitude into it, to create the day through our attitudes, to look for those little bits of magic that are there for all of us. If only we have an attitude that allows us to make our lives special.
Questions to consider:
What kinds of magic might be waiting for us if we search with the right attitude?
What tends to determine the attitude that you bring to each day? How might you go about changing that attitude if necessary?
What are some obstacles to seeing the world in bright and positive ways?
For further thought:
This, I thought, is how great visionaries and poets see everything– as if for the first time. Each morning, they see a new world before their eyes; they do not really see it, they create it.-Nikos Kazantzakis.
