Katherine Johnson, portrayed by Taraji P. Henson in the hit movie, “Hidden Figures,” was the renowned mathematician whose calculations ensured astronaut John Glenn’s safe orbit and Apollo 11’s moon mission success. Her pivotal role in NASA’s history followed her groundbreaking achievement as the first Black woman to integrate the graduate school at the University of West Virginia. Dr. Jolley encourages us to use her empowering quote, “I’ve never had an inferiority issue. Never have and never will. I am as good as anybody. And so are you!” as inspiration to embrace our worth and strive for greatness.
