The Olympics in Paris- Looking Back 52 Years Today’s My Rhymes and Reasons
Another talk about The Olympics in Paris with Greg. It’s a Tuesday, and welcome to My Rhymes and Reasons. I’m Greg; for those of you who have not watched before, most of you know that this is a daily routine Monday through Friday. As we look up, we might look forward with a sense of God’s presence and purpose for the day. This week, of course, we’re focusing on the Olympics in Paris.
Welcome to our family room. You know every couple of years, to be at the Winter Olympics or the Summer Olympics, we create a little display on our fireplace mantle that calls attention to something that, well, ever since I can remember, I have been a fan of the world coming together with the greatest athletes in the world competing against one another in an atmosphere of Peace.
It was my privilege 52 years ago to be at the Munich Summer Olympics, which was sadly a tragic memory for those Israeli athletes who lost their lives at the hands of snipers. But most Olympics call to mind very happy memories. If you’ve read The Boys in the Boat, you know that wonderful story, a true life story that took place in 1936 there in Berlin when the United States was represented by the University of Washington 8-man crew team who took the gold.
There is a marvelous story in Daniel Brown’s book and the movie that’s been made, so as you can see, I love to talk about the Olympics. I have a friend who was in my church 45 years ago who won a medal in the pentathlon in Helsinki, Finland, and then lo and behold, another church that I would serve I had Carl Lad, who was a bronze medal winner in the men’s four rowing that won in Helsinki in 1952…you can hear more in the video message above.
