The Start of Our Journey to Bethlehem with the Start of Advent

It’s a Monday, and it’s Greg Asimakoupoulos with today’s edition of My Rhymes and Reasons. Yesterday was the start of our journey to Bethlehem. Advent commenced yesterday. The first candles of the Advent wreath were lit, and today, on this first Monday of Advent, we begin with an interesting dilemma here.

I am on this road that doesn’t lead to Bethlehem but to a precarious situation. I’m recording this two days after a bomb Cyclone hit our community. It’s amazing—truly amazing. 70 mph winds took down trees and power lines and rendered our community virtually helpless as we got closer. As I walk, you’ll see the situation that I’m describing.

When we first moved to the Seattle area in 2005, shortly after arriving, a wind storm left our community without power and heat for 8 days. It was unimaginable. It was tough when the power failed. You recognize what you’ve taken for granted most days. This is the Island Crest Way, which divides Mercer Island in half. Mercer Island is roughly 2 and 1/2 miles wide and 6 Mi long to give you a sense of perspective. Manhattan is 12 miles long and 2 and 1/2 miles wide. You can hear more about it in the video above.
