The Balancing Act with Doug Burley on Today’s My Rhymes and Reasons 8.7.2024
Today, we will talk once again with Doug Burley about the Balancing Act. It’s a Wednesday, and here we are once again at Starbucks; you know, I refer to our local coffee hangout because it’s a place where, you know, spiritual conversations happen, communion takes place, and fellowship happens at Starbucks coffee. Oh, coffee happens anyway; Doug Burley is with me once again; we left off yesterday talking about the Olympics of life and the balance.
The Balancing Act. Simone Biles, you know, is the master. I guess we can say it is a general, gender-neutral term, or I don’t know we want to say that. But anyway, I want to know how to balance looking at her.
You live in a very interesting community, Washington, D.C. When you’re not traveling the world and encouraging Christians in parts of the former Soviet Union, you are living in the center of the politically divided United States of America. Yeah, how do you maintain balance in the midst of all of that as a follower of Jesus?
Well, let me give you a passage to think about: “2 Corinthians 5:16-17 Henceforth, We no longer see anyone from a worldly point of view. Even as we once saw Christ as a man, we see Him that way no longer, for if anyone is in Christ, He’s a new creation. The old is gone, the new has come, all this is from God”.
Okay, so when did you memorize that?
Oh, a long time ago. So it was worth memorizing, but you know, I included verse 16 because I encounter a lot of people I don’t agree with politically. I meet with many Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, and I pray to meet with him.
Lord, help me see this person through your eyes, okay? I never get into arguments, and I don’t because of my ego against their ego. Everybody loses in that thing. Paul writes in 2 Timothy 2:14 to avoid wrangling about words, which only ruins the hearer… listen to more in the video above.
