The More Fun You Have-Daily Meditation 1.18.23

Today’s quotation:

The more fun you have, the greater your value to yourself and your society.  The more fun you share with others, the more fun you have.-Bernie De Koven from the “Purported Utterances of the Oaqui”

Today’s Meditation:

I love to have fun, and I do my best to have fun in any situation I find myself in.  This doesn’t always sit well with everyone, especially those who interpret having fun as “irresponsible.”  But as I get older, I care less and less about how other people see me. Having fun and enjoying myself get more accessible and easier as the attention that I pay to other people’s displeasure diminishes.

Our world really could be an enjoyable place if we didn’t take everything so darned seriously and if we were to have more fun in more different ways.  I have a critical rule about fun: I’ll never have fun at another person’s expense.  I’ll never feel that I’m enjoying myself because another person is suffering somehow.

I mostly have fun with kids because they haven’t yet forgotten the art.  If they see a ball, a kite, or a puddle, their imaginations take off, and they can enjoy themselves immensely with whatever they have.  We adults, though, often see a kite and say, “I remember when I was a kid, I had a lot of fun flying kites.”  We’ve become people who don’t have fun but remember it well.

Can you have fun today?  Can your job be fun?  Can your breakfast with your family be fun instead of just another obligation or occurrence?  If you can make dinner fun, will your whole family benefit?  You’ll have to be prepared to face some people who aren’t quite sure why you suddenly want to have fun, more than likely, but that’s okay–they may not have fun with you today, but eventually, they’ll come to enjoy themselves with you.

Questions to consider:

Why do we tend to associate fun with a lack of responsibility or a lack of productivity?

What are some of the most fun things that you’ve done?  Do you still do them?

What are some of the benefits of sharing the fun with others?

For Further Thought:

Those who do not get fun and enjoyment out of every day. . . need to reorganize their lives.-George Matthew Adams
