The Reader Board-Every Dream Begins with a Dreamer
Greg Asimakoupoulos is with today’s edition of My Rhymes and Reasons. Occasionally, I’m intrigued by The Reader Board here at the Congregational Church. My friend Jennifer Castle has been Pastor here for the past few years. I think I mentioned sometime back that Jennifer grew up in Clayton, an area of the East Bay in Northern California. She was a visitor at our church when she was in high school because her best friend in high school was Stewart, the daughter of our church chairman.
I didn’t discover this connection until Jennifer and her family moved to the area about three years ago when I was chaplain at Covenant Living at the Shores. I hosted her for lunch and showed her around our campus, where several of her members, including some of you who view these daily devotions, are members at the Mercer Island Congregational Church, which frequently has Pithy sayings here on The Reader’s Board.
I stopped today because I want to take exception to what I see on the reader board sign: ‘Every Dream Begins with a Dreamer.’
I know where they’re coming from, but I beg to differ. At least, as I see in the heart of Martin Luther King, he was one of the dreamers of the 20th century, and I think of him when I think of someone with a dream. I have to believe that that dream originated not with Dr. King himself but with God. He served with the one who called him into full-time Christian Ministry long before he became a civil rights prophet and a civil rights leader within the United States. Dr. King was a pastor in Georgia at Ebenezer Baptist Church. You can finish listening on the video above.
