They Found God to Be Faithful-with Greg on Monday’s Edition of My Rhymes and Reasons
Today’s My Rhymes and Reasons: Greg talks about how They Found God to Be Faithful. Read on to see who “they” were.
It’s Greg Asimakoupoulos with Monday’s edition of My Rhymes and Reasons. Greetings on a very dark, rainy October morning. It’s that time of year when the days are getting shorter and the nights longer. We are approaching the shortest day of the year, which comes just before Christmas.
In many of your churches, you will have the longest night services. Those are those blue Christmas gatherings. I think you know what I mean. Many churches offer believers an opportunity during the holiday season to gather in church, light candles, and contemplate the loss in their lives. Because the holidays can be very difficult, people walking in darkness feel pain.
That reminds me of that scripture in Isaiah, which we often read at Christmas. But it’s not just to be read at Christmas time. If you read through the Bible in a year, as Wendy and I are currently doing, you find yourself in the beginning chapters of Isaiah long before December, where the Prophet writes: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light this morning.”
It’s barely light enough for me to navigate The Woodlands here near our home, but I’m out here in the rain. You can probably hear it in the background—the pelting rain. I’m adequately dressed so as not to get too wet, but it’s dark and dismal. It’s an opportunity to remind myself that even in the darkness of October, there’s an opportunity to find light.
Where do we see that in a grandchild’s face or in the smile of a spouse on a Sunday morning? Maybe you experienced that yesterday as you went to church. There, you were greeted by people who’ve been through a challenging year, yet they greeted you with a hug, an Embrace, and words that conveyed the fact that they found God to be faithful.
