Greg, with Monday’s edition of My Rhymes and Reasons, I’m greeting you in Kitsap County in Keyport, across the street from where my great-grandparents had a farm some years ago. This old vessel is here just off the main highway. As I was leaving where I had recorded my devotion last Friday on Hawk Avenue Northeast, I saw this old, dilapidated boat, and I asked the owner if she could tell me a little bit about it. She said it was 1936.
Shane, that means that this boat was built when my mom was nine years old. I don’t know if it was in the harbor here at Keyport when my Mom would visit her grandparents back then or not, 1936 Shane. I don’t know much about boats, so that doesn’t mean much to me. Maybe it does to you, but look just how dilapidated it is. The owner said, “Please don’t try to get on it.” I won’t.
I don’t think it would support me, but it’s a picture of a useless life. One that’s lost its purpose and one that’s lost its seaworthiness. This didn’t happen overnight. This happened over time. You see the ferns growing, the moss growing, you see the holes in the hull this can happen to us in terms of our useability…Listen to more on the video above.
