Good morning to all of you!
It’s two days after Valentine’s Day, but we’re going to do a Valentine’s Day video anyway because Valentine’s Day, the spirit of it, should really last so much more than one day. We forgot last week, but here we are with our bread. Yes, we got right on. I love Valentine’s Day, and I love the story of St Valentine’s.
I know I’ve told it before, but I’m going to tell it again because it’s just so beautiful. So he lived in the 3RD Century around the year well he, he died in the year 273. It was a long time ago, so at that time, he lived in Rome. The Roman Empire did not want men to get married because they felt that if they got married, they wouldn’t make good soldiers, so they were forbidden to marry.
Any priest who married someone would be sentenced to death. That’s a big thing. It’s pretty extreme, but this man, I don’t know his first name, but call him St. Valentine, he was a priest, a young priest, and he felt that was wrong. So, in his Church, there was like a basement many stairs levels down, and he used to take couples down there and marry them.
He knew he was taking a considerable risk, but he felt it was so important, and he married hundreds of couples because he really believed in love, so he did. He did get caught, and he was taken to prison, and there was a death sentence. Hear more in the video above.
